About the Lecturer I

Dr. Angelina Autar has been teaching within the Department of Sociology at the University of Guyana Berbice Campus (UGBC) since 2011. During that time, she also served as Coordinator of the Division of Social Sciences and represented both the Faculty of Social Sciences and UGBC on several University of Guyana committees. Her approach to teaching sociology embraces making sociology come alive, with an emphasis on cultivating sociological imaginations.

Dr. Autar earned a Doctor of Education degree in Leadership and Innovation from the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, Arizona State University and a BA and MA in Sociology from Saint John’s University, NY. Her secondary education was completed at President’s College, Guyana. Angelina Autar’s action research dissertation project at the University of Guyana integrated dialogic and inclusive approaches to teaching and learning to help students develop critical thinking. Her current research continues to explore innovations that can enhance the student learning experience, and which allow educators to better understand and design relevant and meaningful approaches to education.

Angelina is a fitness enthusiast and enjoys DIY projects, cafes, and nature adventures.
