About the Lecturer II/Assistant Director

Pamela is a lecturer within the departments of Language and Cultural Studies and Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Guyana and an ardent advocate of transformative education. She has over twenty years of teaching and administrative experience. She developed and led projects to support literacy for primary school students and lifelong learning for language learners and educators through distance education. She has served in several administrative positions, including Coordinator of the Division of Education and Humanities, Assistant Director of Undergraduate Research, and Assistant Director of the University of Guyana Berbice Campus, in addition, to being an English Language consultant at the tertiary level and a language arts curriculum writer and reviewer with the Ministry of Education, Guyana. Currently, she engages in research in applied linguistics that leverages pedagogical innovation to address language education problems, and in professional development to support teacher preparation and professional growth.

She earned an Ed.D. in Leadership and Innovation at Arizona State University. She gained her master’s and postgraduate degrees in Language Teaching and Learning at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. After completing her Arts and General Studies diploma and a bachelor’s degree in arts at the University of Guyana, she served as the Head of the Department of English Language at the Central Corentyne Secondary School before joining the University of Guyana in 2007.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, culinary adventures, and volunteering as the treasurer in her church.
