Conference Venue

The conference will be held onsite at the University of Guyana Berbice Campus (UGBC). The opening session on Monday morning will occur in the UGBC Auditorium, and the presentations will occur in classrooms on the site.

Location of UGBC

The University of Guyana, Berbice Campus (UGBC) is located in Region 6, East Berbice, Corentyne. Region 6 is bordered by Suriname to the East, the Atlantic Ocean to the North, Brazil to the South, and Regions 5 to the West. East Berbice has three towns and several villages located along the Corentyne coast.
The distance between Cheddi Jagan International Airport and Rose Hall town, the town closest to UGBC, is approximately 160 km, or 100 miles. Depending on traffic conditions, this distance can be covered in 3 ½ hours.

The distance between Ogle airport to Rose Hall town is 104 km or 56 miles and can be covered in 2 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

Visitors driving to the East Coast Berbice area should take note of the opening and closing of the Berbice River Bridge. The schedule of daily opening can be viewed here: https://www.berbicebridge.com/bridge-schedule

Travel in Guyana

The conference can make transportation arrangements. Participants are responsible for paying for their ground transport to and from the airports if they do not fit in with the conference's special arrangements. Car rental services are available in Berbice.

  • Driving in Guyana

Traffic in Guyana follows the left side of the road, like the UK and opposite to the US, Canada, and most of the EU. Most vehicles in Guyana have the driver’s seat on the right-hand side.

Information for Presenters

Presentations

  • Each individual or co-authored presentation, including those within a panel, will be allotted 15 minutes for the paper and 5 minutes for questions, for 20 minutes per presentation.
  • All presentation rooms will have a projector and/or a laptop with a USB port. Please ensure your presentation is emailed to us or saved on a USB drive and ready before your session begins.
  • To avoid delays, install your presentation on the session room equipment before your session starts. Once session chairpersons are announced, coordinate with your chairperson to complete this setup.
  • If your presentation requires sound, please notify us early.
  • The conference venue has open access WiFi which will be available to all conference participants on site.
  • Electric sockets in Guyana use US-style plugs and operate on a 110-120V. current.
  • Additionally, if you have any scheduling constraints during the conference, let us know early.

Note: Other tours, such as Kaieteur Falls and 5 Island Town Hopping, are available for other regions in Guyana (https://shorturl.at/yMeht). However, participants must make private arrangements for these tours. The conference will not organise them.

The conference hosts will provide participants with lunch and coffee breaks at no additional charge.

Currency
The local currency is the GY dollar. You can use your ATM card to get cash in GY dollars at ATMs throughout the country.  The conference registration desk will accept registration fees in US or Guyana Currency only.
