About the Lecturer I

Monix is a trained modern languages educator with over 17 years of experience teaching Spanish at the secondary level and more than four years at the tertiary level. Her academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Education with a concentration in Modern Languages (Spanish) and education courses, complemented by a Master of Arts in Education. She specializes in Spanish language acquisition, leveraging her expertise in classroom management and group interaction to create engaging learning environments. Her professional journey is rooted in the Guyanese context, and she remains committed to enhancing her teaching methodologies through continuous online learning. Additionally, she has held administrative positions, showcasing strong leadership and management skills. Her research interests include second language acquisition, gender roles, effective leadership, and transformative education.

Monix prioritizes growth through professional development, earning certifications such as REBT - The Science of Reprogramming Your Mind (Alison, 2020) and Understanding Open Educational Resources (Commonwealth of Learning, 2020). She has co-authored ¡Aprendamos hablando! The Beginner’s Spanish Companion, a resource for Spanish learners, and contributed to education as an educational trainer at the Guyana Council of Organizations for Persons with Disabilities and through her leadership roles at NATI and The Teachers’ Initiative Forum.

Beyond education, Monix is a multifaceted professional: a poet, motivational speaker, interpretive dancer, and professional singer. As Assistant Pastor at Redeemed Full Gospel Fellowship, she nurtures spiritual growth. Her community contributions include founding Stand with Me Foundation for amputees and producing Life in Focus, a Facebook Live program promoting healthy living. Additionally, she serves as Chairwoman of Survivors Unite, a committee supporting vehicular accident survivors.
